There are a lot of possible explanations for this piece. I used to like to collect pens. I liked the various textures and feelings or writing with different writing utensils. I wanted to be able to use all my pens at once. Thus, this. I characterized each of my various writing utensils that I had in my work area and let the story (if you could call it that) happen. I suppose it shows that I used to think about sex a lot more than I thought about thinking about sex. This plays out like a bad reality television show in fast motion, with many men clamoring for sex with the one woman that exists within the confines of their reality (the ostensible "pen-only zone"). Some things that called my attention:
- Spelling of "yeah" without an "h"
- Pervasive internet-speak
- Pictoral depiction of "fuck you" by Ballpoint
- Racial implications of "minorities" in a "pen-only zone"?
- Why Cleveland?
- Is Blue Fusion a negative caricature of women?
- Why do I say "do it" instead of "sex" or something more explicit? Was I afraid?
- The words to describe sex start out in quotes, then lose them
- Implications of the fact that the story is written by Rollerball?
- Asexuality of Fusion, Felt Tip, and Pencil (although perhaps Pencil is just not as in touch with his sexuality as the others or he's witnessing the sex of a different species altogether)
- "Your hopeless, ballpoint."
